Director, Community Empowerment

Position Overview: The Director of Communications and Community Empowerment  will lead station efforts to build and
maintain current key relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, political leaders, and the business community in order to cultivate increased awareness of the station and the population that we serve. This individual will partner internally with station and corporate leadership to understand business objectives in order to effectively guide the development and execution of key community empowerment campaigns.

 Duties and Responsibilities: Draft and/or review local press releases, scripts for speeches, local media requests. Establishing a speakers’ bureau from the station’s employees (news anchors and reporters) and schedule their appearances at public or organization’s events.Evaluate current station campaigns and develop new campaigns as needed. Produce public service announcements and vignettes that are part of the station campaign efforts.Writing and distributing press releases for the
station.  Maintain mailing list for press releases, program schedules, special updates and any other materials that may
be of community interest. Represent the station to community groups, local schools, non-profit agencies, etc., on behalf of KUVS Community service outreach efforts. Attend meetings, events, galas in order to interface with community leaders, and represent the station.Responsible for the station’s weekly community calendar and responsible for the maintenance of the FCC Public File and FCC quarterly reports. Coordinate community leaders for the campaign advisory board and maintaining communication with members regarding meetings and campaign events and other correspondence deemed necessary for distribution.Identify events that provide branding opportunity for the station and interaction with key demographics for local
market. (Events, parades, festivals, health fairs, community forums/town halls, phone banks, etc.)Answer viewer calls regarding: the stations public affairs department, public affairs programs and involvement in the
community.Assist in the decision making process of activities and events concerning the station campaign.Ascertaining community leaders input on a regular basis to track community issues and needs for purpose of FCC license requirements.Other duties as deemed necessary.


Experience Requirements: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing and/or public affairs. Successful project management skills with history of driving projects to completion in a high-pressure and deadline
driven environment. Excellent written and spoken English/Spanish language communication skills. Ability to write, and develop compelling press releases. Creative and strong communication and inter-personal skills and a positive attitude. Ability to work independently and in a team environment while managing multiple assignments. Understands region and Hispanic market dynamics, issues and trends. Must have the ability to work weekends and evenings as needed to attend company sponsored events, and/or business networking socials. Valid driver’s license with good driving record is required.
